PMDA
is the professional organization committed to the continuous improvement
of quality care for Pennsylvanians across the long-term care continuum,
by providing advocacy, education, and professional development
services for medical directors, physicians, and other healthcare
team members. PMDA advances its mission by outreach to other groups

BENEFITS:
- Support
Network: Membership in PMDA provides you with the opportunity
to expand your professional contacts by attending the Association’s
Annual Symposium and periodic regioal meetings. PMDA is the source for
dialogue with your colleagues regarding the role and practice of long-term
care professionals including medical directors, physicians, and other
health care team members.
- Continuing
Education: PMDA offers opportunities to advance your medical
knowledge and skill through our newsletter and annual continuing medical
education symposium.
- Public
Advocacy: Membership in PMDA provides the opportunity
to strengthen your voice in Harrisburg on matters pertinent to the field
of long-term care. PMDA is taking the initiative to represent, educate,
and advocate on behalf of physicians who practice in long-term care.
PMDA also works collaboratively with AMDA on issues of national importance
to long-term care.

Vision: PMDA will be a leader in enhancing the health
care and quality of life for Pennsylvanians across the continuum of
long-term care, through assisting medical directors, physicians, and
other health care team members.
OBJECTIVES:
- To promote excellence in medical care for residents
of all ages in nursing homes and other long-term care settings.
- To promote peer education among medical directors,
attending, referring, and consulting physicians on nursing home staffs
and in long-term settings.
- To assist non-medical providers, consultants,
nursing home staff and regulatory agencies in maintaining high standards
of resident care.
- To assist family and others in the understanding,
acceptance, and assistance for residents in long-term care.
- To establish and promote educational programs
for maintaining a high standard of professional care in long-term institutions.
- To act as liaison with other professional organizations
and individuals to promote quality resident care.
- To promote the enactment of laws, regulations,
and payment systems to accomplish these objectives.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
- Represent over 200 members throughout the state,
and are the largest chapter of the American Medical Directors Association.
- Routinely attract over 100 long term care professionals
to the PMDA Annual Educational Symposium.
- Maintain a cooperative relationship with the
Department of Health.
- Published regular issues of PMDA News...thirty
issues of PMDA News since inaugural issue in Summer 1993.
- Maintain alliances with other key organizations
in long-term care.
- Offer an informative PMDA official website, www.pamda.org.
- Maintain fax and email capabilities to communicate
with members in a timely manner.
